Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning, in which a person has stopped breathing.

When the heart stops, lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few short minutes and cause death within 8 to 10 minutes. CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, nearly half a million Americans die from a cardiac arrest every year and more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year.

In the event of a cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can aid is saving a life. However, only about a quarter of Americans say there is an AED at their workplace.

Effective CPR and AED care can more than double a person’s chance of survival. A person faced with an emergency such as a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, or choking may be saved if someone at the scene have had the lifesaving skills and techniques that can be acquired through CPR training.

Heart CPR offers affordable CPR and AED certification classes taught by expert instructors. CPR and AED certification options include Instructor Led (classroom only training), Blended  Learning (online + in-person skill training) and Online only CPR courses.

During our CPR and AED class, you will learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies. Skills include:

How to give high-quality chest compressions
How to care for conscious and unconscious choking
How to deliver ventilations
How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

High quality CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs until more definitive medical treatment like an AED can restore a normal heart rhythm.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), nearly 500,000 Americans die from sudden cardiac arrest every year and more than 350,000 cases of cardiac arrest occurs outside of the hospital each year.

In the event of sudden cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can shock and aid in saving the victim’s life. With that said, about 1 in 4 Americans say there is an AED at their workplace.

Many individuals do not have the knowledge to help others when it comes to First Aid and CPR emergencies, and often don’t even know the proper way to help themselves.

Anyone can learn how to provide First Aid, CPR and AED care. However, many people feel helpless to act during an emergency because they either do not know how to administer care or their certification has lapsed and are no longer confident in their ability. The life you save could be someone you love because more than 80 percent of sudden cardiac arrests occur at home.

First Aid and CPR in the Workplace: According to OSHA, First Aid emergencies often happen at work and nearly 10,000 cardiac arrest situations occur in the workplace each year, yet less than half of U.S. employees have been trained in First Aid, CPR and AED.  Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees and this includes proper training in First Aid, CPR and AED.

Save A Life CPR offers affordable First Aid, CPR and AED certification classes for individuals and groups throughout Southern California in Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside County and San Bernardino. We offer certification courses by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and the Health & Safety Institute.

BLS refers to Basic Life Support which is a type of emergency care that first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway (choking). It requires knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED) and relieving airway obstructions in patients of every age.

Save A Life CPR teaches AHA American Heart Association BLS Provider and BLS Renewal certification classes.

The AHA BLS certification course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to respond and perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of hospital, healthcare clinic and prehospital settings.

BLS Providers learn to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate breaths and provide shocks through the use of an AED. The AHA BLS class reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

BLS class skills include:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED (automated external defibrillator)
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device and bagmask
  • Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

Do you need BLS or CPR?
The difference between BLS and CPR is that the BLS class is a more advanced CPR & AED course used by healthcare professionals & medical students. If you are not a medical/healthcare professional, the best class for you would be a standard CPR AED class or CPR AED with First Aid class.
